CITY OF IRVINE

Background Information:
Irvine is one of the nation's largest planned urban communities and encompasses more than 65 square miles. The City of Irvine strives to create a community that promotes well being for people to live, work and play in a healthy environment.

Sustainability Contribution:
In addition to other eco-friendly endeavors, the City of Irvine has also introduced a comprehensive green building program. The program is comprised of three different segments- Green Home Building, Commercial Green Building, and Apartment Green Building. In conjunction with these programs; the City has also created green building scoring checklists, green building brochures and a green building resource guide in order to provide homeowners and developers with information about the programs (all of the aforementioned items can be found in the Green Building Guidelines and Checklists section). The City’s concerted efforts to maintain an earth-friendly community have landed it on The Green Guide’s list of the top 15 Green Cities in the U.S., the only city in Southern California to receive such a distinction.
